MISSION

Sid Yoga Center, a Baptiste Inspired Studio, is making a difference in the world by being an active fundraising for African Yoga Project (AYP).  AYP’s goal is to raise at least $150,000 USD to open Kenya’s first Community Health, Yoga and Wellness Center. Imagine an 8,000 square foot wellness center in Nairobi that promotes the health and therapeutic benefits of yoga while creating economic stability for individuals living in the developing world. This will be huge in an area that often lacks safe space for community gathering.

Africa Yoga Project uses the transformative power of BaptisteYoga to empower communities and change lives in East Africa and globally. Through yoga practice, Africa Yoga Project programs foster peaceand non-violence, improve self-sufficiency, create economicstability and encourage new opportunities for personal andcollective growth.   The majority of our communities we serve are between the agesof 16 and 30 from the slums of Kenya.

  • One of the slum areas we serve has 1 million peopleliving in an area equal to the size of central park. Most live off $1 to $2 a day.
  •  With the support of the Baptiste community, Paige Elenson and Baron Baptiste facilitated the first yoga teacher training in Kenya in 2009!
  • Africa Yoga Project currently employs 52 teachers and assistantspaying them a living wage of $120 per month. This wage allowsthem to support 6 to 8 family members.
  • Today, over 5,000 people participate in more than 250 freecommunity yoga classes weekly in 80 locations, which includecommunity centers, prisons and schools throughout Nairobi and in theMasai village of Amboseli, one of Kenya’s national park.
